Ezinne Kalu scored 24 points, had five steals and four assists to lead Savannah State to a 49-42 win over North Florida in Tiger Arena.
The victory snapped a three-game losing streak for Savannah State as they improved to 2-3.
North Florida fell to 1-4.
Trailing by 2, SSU scored 8 straight points during a 11-2 run that gave them a 17-10 lead with 6:13 on the clock.
North Florida cut their deficit to one with 1:26 remaining but a jumper by
Darice Fountaine followed by a pair of free throws gave SSU a 23-18 edge.
A 3-pointer by Juliemay Syquio with 21 seconds left sent UNF into the locker room trailing 23-21 at the half.
Savannah State 28-23 early in the second half but the Ospreys went on a 12-0 run to take a 35-28 lead with 12:17 on the clock.
SSU answered North Florida with nine unanswered points and went ahead 37-35 with nine minutes remaining.
With the contest tied at 37, SSU out-scored North Florida 8-1 to go ahead 45-38 with 5:15 left.
A layup by Larkia Jones put UNF as close as 45-42 but the visitors would get no closer as Kalu scored the final four points of the contest from the free throw line.
Fountaine added 14 points and 9 rebounds for SSU.
UNF out-rebounded Savannah State 36 to 23 but made 29 turnovers.
Brittany Kirkland had 14 for the Ospreys while Jones chipped in 11 points and 10 rebounds.
