Lady Tigers Lose First Game

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- Trailing by 12 points with 11:17 left in the game, Savannah State rallied to cut their deficit to 53-50 with 3:40 remaining but Florida A&M finished the game with a 14-4 run to post a 67-54 win over the Lady Tigers at the Lawson Center.

The loss gives SSU a 1-1 record while the Rattlers improve to 2-1.

FAMU opened up a 4-0 lead but Savannah State answered with seven straight points to go ahead by three with 15:24 on the clock.

A free throw by Ezinne Kalu gave SSU a 9-8 lead but the Rattlers put together a 16-5 run to go ahead by 10 points with 8:06 remaining.

A 3-pointer by Kym Stamps got SSU within 27-24 with just under five minutes left but Florida A&M ended the half with seven consecutive points for a 34-24 halftime lead.

FAMU led by as many as 12 early in the second half but the Lady Tigers clawed their way back into the game to make the score 42-38 with 14:10 remaining.

The Rattlers regained their double digit lead before SSU used a 12-3 run to close within three with 5:40 left.

SSU's Darice Fountaine led all scorers with 26 points. She also had 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Charmaine Green came off the bench to add 7 points and seven rebounds while Alisha Nelson grabbed 9 rebounds.

Qiana Donald led 4 FAMU players in double figures with 16 points.

FAMU out-rebounded SSU 47 to 40. Savannah State made 21 turnovers
