Jordan Appointed Faculty Athletics Representative

SAVANNAH, Ga.- Savannah State University president Dr. Earl Yarbrough has named Dr. Kenneth Jordan as Faculty Athletics Representative for SSU Athletics.

Jordan has been employed at Savannah State since September of 1989 when he joined the university as Associate Professor in the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences (SBS). Currently, he serves as a professor in SBS. He is also the Corresponding Secretary of the SSU Faculty Senate.

“It is an honor to serve as a liaison to the faculty by serving in the capacity of faculty athletic representative. I thank both Dr. Flythe and President Yarbrough for having confidence in me to uphold such a position with dignity and responsibility,” said Jordan.

Jordan received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Urban Geography from North Carolina College (NCC) now NCCU in 1969; a Master of Arts degree in Urban Geography with an emphasis in City and Regional Planning from the University of California at Berkeley, California in 1974; and a Ph.D. in Urban Geography and Planning from The University of California at Berkeley in 1976.

Since earning the doctoral degree, he has held numerous professorial appointments including stints at Prairie View A & M University, Tennessee State University, Norfolk State University, Old Dominion University and Savannah State respectively.

Jordan served as Director of the Master of Public Administration Program (MPA) at Savannah State from 1991-1998 and also served as Associate Director of the Master of Public Administration Program at Georgia Southern University from 1991-1995.

An ordained Elder in the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, he currently serve as an Associate Pastor at the St. Paul C. M. E. Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Henry R. Delaney, Jr. and Pastor De'Andre Thurmond in Savannah, GA. Jordan is the Pastor of the St. Luke Independent Methodist Church in Metter, Ga. 

A former chair of the Athletic Committee at SSU, Jordan states “I have always been very much concerned, dedicated and integrally involved in Tiger Athletics.” He went on to add “I believe that athletics is a major component of higher education and must receive full and total support of the entire campus and external community.”

A sports enthusiast, Jordan played alto saxophone while in high school and in the NCCU marching band.

Jordan is married to The Rev. Beverly G. Jordan and they have one son, Brandon Christopher Devon Jordan, a sophomore at Richmond Hill High School.
