OREM, Utah- Longwood placed four players in double figures as the Lancers defeated Savannah State 76-60 in the third round of the Division I Women's Independent Tournament played at the McKay Center.
Savannah State ends the 2008-09 season with a 9-22 record.
Despite shooting 68 percent from the floor in the first half, SSU trailed at intermission 40-39.
The first half had six ties and no team led by more than six points.
SSU led 29-23 with 8:11 left but back-to-back 3-pointers by Longwood pulled the Lancers within one point.
The Lady Tigers were ahead 33-28 but Longwood tied the score at 35 with 2:14 on the clock.
Tied at 37, Longwood went ahead after Sierra Fletcher hit a 3-pointer but SSU's
Milan Johnson made a jumper with 31 seconds left to send SSU into the half trailing by one.
SSU trailed by seven early in the second half but field goals from Lashara Smith and
Courtney Long cut the Lady Tigers deficit to 46-43 with 16:58 left.
Longwood stretched their lead to 17 with a 17-3 run with 6:26 on the clock.
A 3-pointer by Fletcher gave the Lancers their largest lead of the night at 68-49 with 3:10 remaining.
Savannah State, who shot 23.5 percent in the second half, was able to pull within 11 late in the game but could get no closer.
Smith had 17 points for SSU and
Crissa Jackson came off the bench to score 13.
Alisha Nelson posted a career-high 13 rebounds.
Smith was the only SSU player selected to the all-tournament team.
Longwood (8-21) received 17 points from Fletcher.
