OREM, Utah- Chicago State shot 56.7 percent from the field in the second half in a 74-39 win over Savannah State in the opening round of the Division I Women's Independent Tournament at the Mckay Center.
CSU placed five players in double figures and out-rebounded the Lady Tigers 48 to 26.
Chicago State scored the first 12 points of the game and led by as many as 16 in the first period before SSU ended the first half with a 10-3 run and went into the locker room trailing 32-23.
CSU began the second half with a 16-0 run to go ahead by 25 with 14:03 left.
Another 16-0 run expanded their lead to 38 with 2:13 remaining.
Lashara Smith led SSU (8-21) with 12 points and four assists.
Courtney Long added 10 points and
Raven Fields had eight points and nine rebounds.
Chicago State (15-13) was paced by Jasmin Dixon's 18 points and seven assists.
