SAVANNAH, Ga.- Savannah State snapped a five game losing streak with a 57-46 victory over Stetson in Tiger Arena before a crowd of 501 fans.
Senior guard
Tracy Rankins had a game-high 14 points for the Tigers (5-8) as well as seven rebounds. Sophomore forward
Rashad Hassan added 12 points and 11 rebounds.
SSU led 42-39 with just under seven minutes remaining but put together nine unanswered points to go ahead by 12 with 1:46 on the clock.
Stetson cut their deficit to eight with 55 seconds left but the Tigers responded with five straight points to increase their lead to 57-44 with less than 10 seconds on the clock.
A.J. Smith had 12 points for the Hatters (2-7).
Stetson jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the game but SSU rallied back to tie the contest at 14 with 8:46 on the clock.
With the game knotted at 18, the Tigers scored seven unanswered points grab a 25-18 lead with two minutes left but Stetson scored the final eight points of the half and took a 26-25 advantage into the locker room.
SSU shot 43.9 percent from the floor and 55.6 percent from 3-point range.
Stetson shot 32 percent from the floor and was out-rebounded 40 to 33.
