FAMU Defeats Lady Tigers

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- Florida A&M swept the season series with Savannah State after a 72-44 victory at Gaither Gymnasium before a crowd of 183.
 
The Rattlers, who improved to 5-6, raced out to a 14-4 lead with 12:44 remaining in the first period.
 
Savannah State whittled their deficit to six points but FAMU answered with six straight points in increase their lead to 22-10 with 7:51 left.
 
Crissa Jackson hit a pair of 3-pointers for SSU to end the half as the Lady Tigers went into the locker room down 24-16.
 
FAMU scored the first basket of the second period but Savannah State would get two field goals from Carlita Johnson and one from Jackson to trim their deficit to 26-22 with 18:15 left.
 
The Rattlers had an answer for SSU as they put together a 19-6 run to increase their lead to 45-28 with 1:19 remaining.
 
After SSU trimmed FAMU's lead to 12, the Rattlers scored six unanswered points.
 
Ahead 55-40 with 6:23 left, FAMU closed the game with a 17- 4 run.
 
FAMU won the rebounding battle 50 to 59 and shot 42.6 percent from the field.
 
Qiana Donald had 13 points and 11 rebounds for FAMU. Stephanie Foster led the Rattlers with 17 points and nine rebounds.
 
Jackson had 12 points for SSU. Lashara Smith added 10 points while Alisha Nelson had 11 rebounds.
 
Savannah State dropped to 3-10.
