Personal: Full Name is Alex J. Simmons… Born on January 29, 1993… Majoring in Civil Engineering Technology… Graduating in 2015… Post college plans are to enter the military and then become a football coach… Parents are Helen Heyward Smoaks and Walter Smoaks… Hobbies include working out and spending time with family and friends… Also recruited by Citadel, South Carolina State, and Brevard College.
 

2012: In his debut season, Simmons emerged as an important offensive weapon. He was third on the team in rushing with 117 yards on 30 carries, and fourth in overall offense. He played in 10 games, and averaged 3.9 yards a rush and 11.0 yards per catch. Simmons averaged 17.5 all-purpose yards per game. He recorded three catches for 33 yards receiving, and a career-high 47 yards rushing on seven carries against Morgan State on October 6. He had a career-high 19-yard completion in a game against Howard on September 29. He returned one punt for 25 yards, blocked one kick against North Carolina Central and had five unassisted tackles, working on special teams.
