SAVANNAH, Ga.- It will be a busy week for Savannah State Athletics as four Tiger programs will be in action across the state of Georgia. Men's golf opens its fall schedule, volleyball continues SIAC play with a pair of road matches, cross country returns to the course after a week off, and football comes back home to "The Marsh" for another key SIAC contest. We'll cover everything in our latest installment of "This Week In Tiger Athletics."
Men's Golf
New Savannah State Head Coach Kelly Allen and the Savannah State men's golf team will open the fall portion of their 2026-27 schedule this week when they travel to Suwanee, Georgia to compete in the Thomas W. Dortch, Jr. HBCU Golf Classic.
The Tigers will compete against a field of HBCU golf programs at Bear's Best Atlanta. The tournament will mark the first opportunity of the fall for Savannah State's golfers to compete in tournament action.
Savannah State's roster features returning golfers Quentin Brooks, Lavelle Teague Jr. and Justin Woods along with senior Nicholas Flowers and freshman Gauge Tailor-Simmons.

Volleyball
The Savannah State volleyball team continues its lengthy road swing this week with a pair of SIAC matches.
Head Coach Roselidah Obunaga and the Lady Tigers will make their second trip to Jacksonville in less than a week when they face Edward Waters on Tuesday, September 22nd. First serve is scheduled for 6:00pm inside the Adams-Jenkins Community Sports & Music Complex.
Two days later, the Orange & Blue will head to Atlanta for another SIAC East Division matchup as they take on Clark Atlanta University. The Lady Tigers and Panthers will square off Thursday, September 24th at 6:00pm inside L.S. Epps Gymnasium.
The two matches continue a stretch in which Savannah State will play 12 consecutive contests away from Tiger Arena before finally returning home in October.

Cross Country
The Savannah State men's and women's cross country teams return to action this Friday when they travel to Mount Vernon, Georgia to participate in the Brewton-Parker Invitational.
The meet will be the second competition of the season for the Tigers and Lady Tigers after opening their 2026 campaign at the Willie Laster Invitational in Albany on September 11th.
On the men's side, Jaden-Wayne McPherson led Savannah State at the season-opening meet with a 10th-place finish, crossing the line in 30:43.70. Braylin Grier finished 14th while Gabriel Hinkins placed 20th as the Tigers finished fourth overall.
Saniya Swain paced the Lady Tigers in Albany, finishing the women's 5K in 27:32.71. Freshman Aniyah Smith followed closely behind with a time of 27:36.00.
Savannah State at Brewton-Parker Invitational

Football
After back-to-back games against SIAC opponents Albany State and Edward Waters, Savannah State returns to Theodore A. "Ted" Wright Stadium this Saturday to begin a two-game homestand.
Head Coach Thomas Howard and the Tigers will welcome Miles College to "The Marsh" for a 6:00pm kickoff on Saturday, September 26th.
The matchup will be Savannah State's third consecutive SIAC contest and the second home game of the season. The Tigers defeated Miles on the road last season and will look to defend their home turf as conference play continues.
Saturday's contest has been designated as Student Organizations Day/Greek Day/Student Appreciation Day and will be presented by Savannah State University's College of Business Administration.
Following the Miles matchup, Savannah State will remain at home and host Allen University next Saturday, October 3rd at 6:00pm.
