Tigers Drop Rescheduled Road Contest At Morehouse

ATLANTA, Ga. — Tristan Sizemore caught two touchdown passes and Adonis Brazil recorded three sacks, but Savannah State fell to Morehouse, 34-23, Sunday at B.T. Harvey Stadium in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference football action.

The contest, which served as Morehouse's Homecoming game, was moved from Saturday, October 10, to Sunday, October 11, due to the effects of Hurricane Isaias.

Savannah State dropped to 1-5 overall and 1-4 in SIAC play, while Morehouse improved to 3-4 overall and 3-3 in conference action.

Sizemore led the Tigers' offense with six receptions for 146 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback RaShawn Truell completed 15 of 32 passes for 232 yards and two scores without an interception. Jahziah Avilez added five catches for 53 yards, while KJ DeBruce paced the rushing attack with 57 yards on seven carries.

Morehouse built a 21-0 lead in the opening quarter behind a 15-yard touchdown pass from Miles Scott to Noah Rhodes and a pair of two-yard touchdown runs by Savion Red.

Savannah State got on the scoreboard with 8:41 remaining in the second quarter when Joshua Woodley connected on a 32-yard field goal, capping an 11-play, 63-yard drive. The Tigers held Morehouse scoreless in the period and entered halftime trailing 21-3.

The Maroon Tigers extended their advantage to 27-3 on an 11-yard touchdown reception by Red with 9:40 left in the third quarter. Savannah State answered with an eight-play, 65-yard scoring drive, finished by Caleb Barbas' one-yard touchdown run. Woodley's extra point narrowed the deficit to 27-10 with 5:03 remaining.

After Morehouse's Stephen Rowser returned an interception 25 yards for a touchdown, Truell connected with Sizemore for a 58-yard scoring strike. The touchdown and Woodley's extra point brought SSU within 34-17 with 1:37 left in the third quarter.

Savannah State's defense kept Morehouse off the scoreboard throughout the fourth quarter. Truell found Sizemore again on a one-yard touchdown pass as time expired, completing a 10-play, 55-yard drive and setting the final margin.

Brazil anchored the Tigers' defensive effort with seven tackles, including five tackles for loss and three sacks. Zamarian

Williams and Terrell Gordon Jr. also finished with seven tackles apiece. Williams added a sack and 1.5 tackles for loss, while

Cayden Buchanan contributed five tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and a sack.

Savannah State outgained Morehouse, 304-281, and limited the Maroon Tigers to 12 net rushing yards. However, Morehouse converted three SSU turnovers into 20 points and held possession for 36:44.

Scott finished with 269 passing yards and two touchdowns for Morehouse, while Red accounted for three offensive touchdowns.
