SAVANNAH, Ga.- With the temperatures getting warmer on the outside, the Savannah State baseball team is also hot.
The Tigers, who finished the regular season with a 26-18 overall record, will enter the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament riding a six-game winning streak. SSU posted a 23-10 conference mark.
Savannah State ended the regular season sweeping three-game series from LeMoyne-Owen and Lane, earning the fourth seed in the tournament.
SSU will head to Historic Luther Williams Field in Macon, Georgia to take on fifth-seeded Morehouse in the opening round in a battle of the Tigers.
Savannah State won the series against the Maroon Tigers during the regular season, winning two of three games that were played in Atlanta in Late February.
The teams split a doubleheader on February 28th with MHC winning the first game 7-6, but rebounding to take the nightcap 6-3. The Tigers won the series on the following day with a resounding 10-2 victory.
As a team, SSU is hitting .301 and averaging 7.75 runs per game. The Tigers have 424 hits with 68 doubles, 13 triples and 18 home runs. The pitching unit has a 5.31 ERA, throwing two shutouts.
Individually,
Johan Sandoval is batting .374 and leads the team in runs (50), hits (61), doubles (15), walks (31) and stolen bases (18). He is tied for the team lead in triples (4) and home runs (3).
Florida Memorial transfers
Kidane Stephens and
Jason Ramos have been productive newcomers to the team.
Stephens is batting .348 with 22 runs, 31 hits, six doubles, two home runs and 28 doubles while Ramos has a .344 batting average to go with his 29 runs, 31 hits, two doubles and 29 RBI.
Tyler Tucker is batting .321 and is second on the team in hits (43), doubles (9) and RBI (34).
Kijani Clarington is hitting .304 and has 34 runs, 34 hits, two doubles, four triples, one home run and 23 RBI while
Chandler Hicks has added his .264 average along with 24 runs, 33 hits, five doubles, one triple, three home runs and 31 RBI.

Gavin Jusino (24 runs, 31 hits, 20 RBI),
Jayden Clark (26 runs, 27 hits, two doubles, 19 RBI),
Hakem Smith (20 runs, 26 hits, eight doubles, ten steals), Noah Rodridguez (four home runs) and
Seth Stargell (ten steals).
Heading up the pitching unit will be starters
Gregorio Gonzalez,
Austin McCormack and
Salvatore Urso.
Gonzalez has a 3.60 ERA and 3-4 record. He has logged 55 innings and has struck out a team-high 70 batters. McCormack has a 7-2 record with 67 strikeouts to go with his 3.77 ERA and four complete games and 86 innings pitched. Urso has a 3.95 ERA and a 6-3 record. He has two complete games, 57 innings pitched and 28 strikeouts.
Bynton Edge will be called from the bullpen if needed. The dual-sport athlete has a 6-0 record with 43 strikeouts in 37.2 innings. Other relievers who might hear their name called are

Joshua Krutchik and
Giovante Tomlins.
