Tigers Take Fifth At SIAC Outdoor Championships

COLUMBIA, S. C.- Xavier Wilson and Robert Estabrook won their events to lead Savannah State University at the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Presented by Toyota, the three-day event was held at the Sheila and Morris Cregger Track at the University of South Carolina.

SSU finished in fifth place at the meet, which wrapped up on Thursday, with 59.50 points.

Wilson won the triple jump with a leap of 14.87m while Estabrook claimed first place in the javelin throw with his toss of 51.35m.

Both victories garnered the Tigers 10 points each.

Earning eight points apiece for SSU with second place finishes were Jakobe Mobley (high jump), Evan Guyton (discus) and Dominique Bailey (decathlon).

Mobley had a leap of 2.05m, Guyton had a throw of 46.61m and Bailey finished with 5,281 points.

Also earning points for Savannah State were D'Anthony Glover (high jump and long jump), Raymond Mckoy (high jump), Bailey (javelin), Donovan Holdip (hammer throw) and Cameron Frails (400m hurdles).

Glover earned the Tigers six points with his third place finish in the high jump (2.00m) and one point with his eighth place finish in the long jump (6.74m). Mckoy was fifth in the high jump (1.95m) which gave SSU 3.5 points while Bailey put two points on the board with his seventh place finish in the javelin (40.90m). Holdip's throw of 41.67m landed him in seventh place and gave SSU two points while Frails had a run of 56.18 to finish eighth and contributed a point to the Tigers final tally.

In other races, Shaun Eason was 18th in the 100m race (10.96) and was 20th in the 200m (22.15). Yastremski Johnson finished 21st in the 200m race with a run of 22.16. Tayshaun Williams was 19th in the 800m with a time of 2:06.73.

Gabriel Hinkins finished 10th in the 5000m with a run of 17:45.38 and was 13th in the 1500m race with a run of 4:34.71 while Jaden-Wayne McPherson (4:36.80) was 16th. 

In the hurdles, Eszaunie Earls finished ninth in the 110m hurdles with  a time of 15.47 and Kajuan Davis was 13th following his run of 15.67. Earls was 13th in the 400m hurdles with a run of 57.52.

Dominique Bailey had a leap of 1.75m to finish 17th in the high jump while Evan Guyton was 17th in thee shot put with his throw of 12.30m.

Rounding out the SSU participants were Melik Williams, who finished 10th in the discus, with his toss of 40.86m and Jordan Scruggs, who was 12th in the javelin with a throw of 36.04m.

Morehouse was the overall winner with 176 points.
