Baseball Drops Series Opening Twinbill At Albany State

ALBANY, Ga.- Savannah State saw their record fall to 11-8 overall and 8-3 in the SIAC, after dropping a double header to Albany State on Saturday by scores of 13-6 and 4-3.

The Golden Rams jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning of the first game but Savannah State began to chip away at the ASU lead.

In the top of the second, Gavin Jusino and Kijani Clarington both hit RBI singles to slice Albany State's lead to 6-2.

Clarington hit a two-run triple in the top of the fourth and scored on a groundout by Johan Sandoval to trim the Golden Rams advantage to 6-5 but ASU added a run in the bottom half of the inning to increase their lead to 7-5.

Albany State went ahead 8-5 in the bottom of the fifth but a RBI single by Kidane Stephens pushed SSU to within 8-6 in the top of the seventh.

ASU answered with four runs in the bottom of the seventh and scored another run in the eighth for a seven-run margin.

Clarington had three hits and three RBI while scoring a run for the Tigers, Stephens had three hits and scored twice and Jason Ramos scored twice.

Noah Brown took the loss on the mound.

The Tigers let the second game slip away with Albany State scoring four times in the bottom of the seventh.

Chandler Hicks hit a sacrifice fly that scored Noah Rodríguez in the first inning, Clarington hit a RBI single in the sixth and Yan Cartaya drew a bases loaded walk in the seventh for a 3-0 lead.

Albany State scored four times off two hits in the bottom of the seventh to win the game.

Hakem Smith ended the game with two doubles and triple, Tyler Tucker finished with a double and a single and Clarington had a pair of singles for SSU.

Adonis Perez was the losing pitcher.

Savannah State and Albany State will close out their three-game series on Sunday at 12 noon.
