SAVANNAH, Ga.- Savannah State opened their 2025 volleyball season against Middle Georgia State in Tiger Arena on Thursday evening.
Although the Knights took the first set (16-25), the crowd of over 400 saw Savannah State battle back to win the second set by two points (27-25) to tie the match at 1-1.
Middle Georgia State won the third set (22-25) but the Lady Tigers showed tenacity and won the fourth set by two points (25-23) to force overtime.
In the extra set, the Knights came away with a 8-15 victory to win the match 2-3.
Amiyah Walker and
Aniyah Parks both had a double-double for Savannah State.
Walker finished the match with 34 assists, 13 digs and eight kills while Parks ended the night with 18 digs, 15 assists and four kills.
Savannah Everett and
Iyonna Pike combined for 28 kills with Everett getting 17 while
Aaliyah Saunders contributed nine kills, four blocks and three aces.
Mina Ezikpe led the team with six blocks and added five kills while Pike had four blocks.
Saniaa Dickey chipped in 20 digs and three assists,
Mya McCall had ten digs,
Kira Raby had four digs and
Nyalah Smith had one kill.
Savannah State (0-1) will travel to Middle Georgia State on September 6.
