COCHRAN, Ga.- Savannah State lost their second match of the young season by falling in three sets to Middle Georgia State by scores of 16-25, 20-25, 21-25.
In the opening set, SSU scored the first point but the Knights answered with a 8-0 run to take the lead. A kill by
Mina Ezikpe followed by a service ace from
Aniyah Parks made the score 3-8 but Savannah State would not get any closer in the set.
The Lady Tigers raced out to a 3-0 lead in the second set. SSU led 4-1 before Middle Georgia State rallied with a 5-1 spurt to take the lead. The set went back an forth with eight ties with the last one being 16-16. The Knights broke the tie with five straight points to go ahead 21-16. SSU got as close as 20-23 but the Knights scored the final points of the set.
Savannah State led 3-1 in the third set before the Knights took a 5-7 lead. The set was tied 9-9 but a kill by Grayson Lallier gave Middle Georgia State the lead for good. SSU trailed 21-23 down the stretch but the Knights scored the final two points to earn the win.
Aniyah Parks had five kills and two aces for Savannah State while
Mina Ezikpe had two blocks and
Amiyah Walker added 13 assists and nine digs.
SSU (0-2) will continue the non-conference portion of their schedule when they play at Paine College on September 9 in Augusta, Georgia.
