Lady Tigers Sweep Tuskegee

ALBANY, Ga.- After having their win streak snapped by Spring Hill, Savannah State bounced back by sweeping Tuskegee in their second game of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Crossover on Thursday afternoon at the Jones Brothers Gymnasium on the campus of Albany State.

Savannah State held Tuskegee to a .062 hitting percentage in their 25-17, 25-17, 25-17 victory.

The 3-0 sweep improves Savannah State to 5-3 overall and 1-1 in the SIAC.

Savannah Everett led the way with a triple double of 10 kills, 10 digs and 14 points.

The first set was knotted at 11 but two errors by Tuskegee and a kill by Aaliyah Saunders gave SSU a 14-11 lead. Savannah State led 15-13 and then scored the next five points to increase their lead to 20-13. The Golden Tigers got within 22-17 before SSU scored the final three points of the set.

Tuskegee led 9-8 in the second set but ten unanswered points by SSU gave the Orange & Blue a commanding 18-9 cushion. The Golden Tigers got within 21-17 late in the set but SSU scored the final four points to earn the win.

Savannah State held a slim 6-5 advantage in the third set and used a 8-0 spurt to increase it to 14-5. The Lady Tigers lead grew to double digits (20-10) following a kill by Harmony Flagg. Tuskegee could get no closer than seven the rest of the way.

Kira Raby had five aces for SSU while Saunders had 2.5 blocks, Amiyah Walker had 28 assists and Saniaa Dickey added 10 digs.

SSU will return to action on Friday with a 9 a.m. match against Miles and a 2 p.m. match with Kentucky State.
