MACON, Ga.- Savannah State's run in the 2025 Cricket SIAC Championships came to an end with a loss in the championship game to Albany State at Luther Williams Field.
The Tigers, who were the #3 seed, rallied to defeat #6 seed Benedict 11-10 in the quarterfinals and then dispatched of the #2 seed Edward Waters 9-4, the defending champions in the semifinals. The following day, Savannah State suffered a 23-8 loss to #4 seed Albany State which sent them into the elimination bracket. The Tigers stayed alive with a 4-3 win over #1 seed Spring Hill which would set up a rematch with the Golden Rams who would down Savannah State 14-12 to win the conference crown.
In the end, four Tigers would be named to the SIAC All-Tournament Team.
Making the team were
Johan Sandoval,
Kendal Spencer,
Kijani Clarington and
Reginald Tuggle.
Sandoval hit .277 during the championships and finished with eight runs, five RBI, two home runs, two steals, one double and one sacrifice fly. His best game came against Benedict when he hit a home run and a double to go with his two RBI and three runs.
Spencer batted .555 in the five games they played and ended the championships with eight RBI, seven runs, four steals, two home runs, one double and one sacrifice fly. The senior outfielder, who is a First Team All-SIAC performer, hit a game-winning ninth inning home run against Spring Hill to put the Tigers into the finals against Albany State.
Clarington had a .312 average with six RBI, five runs, two doubles, two steals and one sacrifice fly. He had a pair of two RBI games against Benedict and Albany State.
Tuggle, who was named the SIAC Freshman of the Year, finished the tournament with a .555 batting average. He scored five runs, had four RBI and four doubles and one steal and one sacrifice fly. Tuggle went 4-for-4 against Albany State in their first meeting and finished with two runs, a double and one RBI.
