Box Score MACON, Ga.- Kendal Spencer's solo home run in the top of the ninth inning proved to be the game winner as #3 seed Savannah State knocks off #1 seed Spring Hill on Sunday afternoon at Luther Williams Field, in the elimination game to advance to the SIAC Championship Series.
The win sets up a date with rival #4 seed Albany State on Sunday at 5 p.m.
The Golden Rams defeated SSU on Saturday 23-8 so the Orange & Blue will be seeking revenge as well as a SIAC championship trophy.
Savannah State jumped out to a 2-0 lead on the Badgers, after two innings of play.
Johan Sandoval led off the contest with a walk and later scored on a passed ball in the first inning.
Kijani Clarington led off the top of the second with a walk and scored on a sacrifice fly by
Roberto Robles.
The score remained the same until the fifth when
Chandler Hicks hit a single and scored on a double to left field by Spencer to give the Tigers a 3-0 advantage.
A solo home run by AJ Swader in the bottom of the sixth got Spring Hill on the scoreboard and two innings later in the bottom of the eighth, they added two more runs to tie the game at 3-3.
With two outs in the top of the ninth, Spencer hit his solo home run over the right field fence to put Savannah State ahead 4-3.
In the bottom half of the inning, with
Brevin Smith on the mound, Walter Guillot grounded out and Nick Hunter struck out. Parker Serio reached base on an error but Jackson Bell hit a fly ball to right field that was caught by Hicks to end the game.
Brayden Thomas pitched seven inning for the Tigers and held Spring Hill to four hits and one run while striking out four. Smith pitched the final two innings and struck out two while surrendering two runs.
Spencer just missed hitting for the cycle, finishing the game with a home run, double and a single to go with his two RBI.
Reginald Tuggle added two hits for SSU (32-13).
