ATLANTA, Ga.-The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its 2025 Baseball All-SIAC teams and individual honorees on Thursday and Brayden Thomas was named the SIAC Starting Pitcher of the Year while Reginald Tuggle was tabbed as the 2025 SIAC Freshman of the Year.
Teams and individual honorees were voted by the conference's head coaches and sports information directors.
Savannah State University had six players to make the list.
Thomas was voted to the All-SIAC First team as a staring pitcher and Kendal Spencer was named to the First Team as a outfielder. Making the All-SIAC Second Team were Tuggle (shortstop), Tyler Tucker (first baseman), Johan Sandoval (designated hitter) and Adonis Perez (relief pitcher).
During the regular season, Thomas had a 3.30 earned run average. He posted a 6-2 record with a team-leading 66 strikeouts in 79 innings. The 6-foot-2 sophomore had a career-high eight strikeouts against Tuskegee on April 5.
Spencer led the team in batting (.432), hits (60), triples (5), RBI (51) and stolen bases (30). He also had eight doubles and three home runs. The senior from Tampa, Florida had four hits against Albany State on March 8 and five RBI against Lane on February 2.
Tuggle hit .364 and led the Tigers in doubles with 14. TheCheyenne, Wyoming native also contributed 49 runs, 47 hits, 44 RBI, three triples, two home runs and 22 stolen bases. His best game of the season came against LeMoyne-Owen on April 12 when he had four hits, two doubles, three runs and six RBI.
In mid-March, Tucker was struggling at the plate with a .167 batting average but the Atlanta, Georgia native caught fire after that and finished the regular season batting .451 with 23 hits, 17 RBI, 11 runs, three doubles and a pair of home runs. Listed at 6-foot-4 and 270-pounds, Tucker had three runs against LeMoyne-Owen on April 12, had three hits against Clark Atlanta on April 19 and three RBI on April 22 against USC Beaufort.
Sandoval led the team with five home runs. In a game against Kentucky State on March 2, he had two home runs, five runs and three RBI. The Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic native finished the season with a .349 batting average, 45 hits, 42 runs, seven doubles, one triple, 32 RBI and 27 steals.
Perez made 13 relief appearances. The senior from Woodbury, New Jersey finished with a 3-1 record, one save, 25 strikeouts and a 2.84 ERA. He struck out a career-high five batters on March 7 against Albany State.
Spencer and Thomas both made the all conference team a year ago. Spencer was named to the 2024 All-SIAC First Team as a outfielder while Thomas was named to the Second team as a relief pitcher.
