Tigers Sweep Doubleheader From Albany State

ALBANY, Ga.- Savannah State improved to 10-5 overall and 9-2 in the SIAC after sweeping a double-header from Albany State on Friday afternoon at the ASU West Campus Baseball Field.

Kendal Spencer had a pair of hits in SSU's 5-3 game one victory and added two more hits while scoring twice in the Tigers 8-1 win in the second game.

Enter the seventh inning in the first game SSU trailed 2-0 but a RBI single by Reginald Tuggle made the score 2-1 although the Golden Rams added a run in the bottom of the seventh to go ahead 3-1.

Savannah State left the bases loaded in the eighth but were able to score twice to tie the game.

In the top of the 10th, RBI singles by Spencer and Brevin Smith proved to be the game winners that gave SSU a 5-3 edge.

Adonis Perez pitched four innings in relief and struck out five to earn the win.

In the second game, Spencer hit a RBI triple in the first inning, Chandler Hicks scored a run in the second and a solo home run by Smith in the third gave the Tigers a 3-0 lead.

Savannah State added five more runs in the fifth with Spencer and Addrian McNeal Jr both hitting RBI singles and Johan Sandoval adding a two-run single for a 8-0 advantage.

Albany State scored their lone run in the bottom of the fifth.

Tuggle and Smith both had two hits and scored twice, Farah Castillo had two hits and Sandoval drove in two runs.

Gregorio Gonzalez struck out seven batters in the win while giving up five hits.

The Tigers and Golden Rams bring a close to their series on Saturday afternoon at 12:00pm
