Baseball Holds Off Albany State, Sweeps Series

ALBANY, Ga.- Savannah State held off a late rally by Albany State on Saturday afternoon as they beat the Golden Rams 10-9 to complete the three-game sweep.

The Tigers have now won six games in a row as they improved their overall record to 11-5 and 9-2 in the SIAC.

A RBI double by Brevin Smith gave SSU a 1-0 lead in the top of the first but Albany State scored twice in the bottom of the inning to go ahead by one.

In the top of the third, a RBI single by Addrian McNeal Jr tied the game at 2-2 but the Golden Rams added two more runs in the bottom of the inning to go back in front 4-2.

The fourth inning saw the Tigers send four runners across the plate with Bryce Bause hitting a solo home run and Reginald Tuggle, Kendal Spencer and Farah Castillo all hitting RBI doubles.

Spencer added a two-run single in the fifth and Castillo hit a sacrifice fly that scored Spencer to make the score 9-4 before Albany State scored twice in the bottom of the inning.

In the top of the seventh, Spencer hit a RBI single to increase their lead to 10-6.

Albany State made things close with three runs in the bottom of the seventh to cut the Tigers lead to 10-9.

ASU left two men on base in the eighth and had the bases loaded in the ninth but were unable to score.

For the game, the Tigers had 21 hits and left 11 runners on base while Albany State had 14 hits and stranded 15 runners.

Bause hit a home run for SSU. Spencer, Castillo, Smith and Julian Grier all hit doubles while Tuggle added two doubles.

Spencer led SSU with four hits while Tuggle and Chandler Hicks had three hits each.

Joshua Krutchik was the winning pitcher. in his 1.1 innings, he surrendered two earned runs and two walks.
