ROME, Ga.- Savannah State completed the second day of action in the SIAC Round Up with matches against Edward Waters and Tuskegee. The Lady Tigers also finished their singles matches with Albany State that were cut short on the previous day, due to rain.
SSU lost to Edward Waters 3-4 and were defeated by Tuskegee 7-0. Albany State beat SSU 4-0 as they fell to 0-5 on the season.
Earning singles victories against Edward Waters were
Madeleine Anne Nolan (6-4, 7-6), Amaia Conner (6-3, 6-3) and
Katelynn Welch (7-5, 7-5) while
Nyla Warner (3-6, 4-6),
Trinitee Henry (3-6, 1-6) and
Yanna Cunningham (0-6, 1-6) suffered losses.
The duo of Nolan/Cunningham won their doubles match (6-4). Warner/Conner and Welch/Henry lost their doubles matches by scores of 0-6 and 3-6 respectively.
Tuskegee swept through SSU with six singles wins and three doubles wins.
Conner and Welch lost their singles matches 0-6, 0-6, Warner lost her (0-6, 3-6), Nolan lost 1-6, 6-7, and Henry fell 1-6, 0-6. Cunningham lost her first set 0-6 before retiring in the second set.
Warner/Welch fell in doubles 1-6 while Nolan/Henry lost 2-6 and Conner/Cunningham lost 0-6.
Against Albany State, Welch (0-6, 0-1), Conner (1-6, 0-6) and Cunningham (0-6, 0-6) all lost their singles matches.
Savannah State will close out the round up on March 7 with matches against Clark Atlanta and Benedict.
