STATESBORO, Ga.- Savannah State opened their 2025 outdoor season by winning the Southern Relays which was hosted by Georgia Southern on Friday and Saturday.
The Tigers had 285 points in the two-day meet, finishing ahead of Asbury (113), Webber (72), Flagler (60), Brewton-Parker (57) and Paine (33).
Savannah State won ten events at the meet and claimed second in five events and was third six times.
Jadon Rountree won the 400m (49.23) and 800m (1.59.08) races while
Xavier Wilson (6.72m) won the long jump,
Evan Guyton (41.33m) won the discus, Meontavious McLean (10.73) won the 100m,
Raymond McKoy (1.95m) won the high jump,
Billy Johnson (11.58m) won the triple jump and
Kajuan Davis (15.02) won the 110m hurdles.
The 4x200m relay team (
Jamari Norwood,
Ethan Hightower,
Elijah Hardy and
Kamari Kindle) won their event with a time of 1:27.83 and the 4x100m relay team of Hightower, McLean,
Nyzaveon Thompson and Davis won their race after being timed at 41.93.
In the hammer throw,
Donovan Holdip was fourth with a throw of 39.50m while Guyton (27.30m) was 7th and
Kiandre Fortson (23.85m) finished 8th.
Billy Johnson (6.43m) was 4th in the long jump and
Dominique Bailey (6.23m) was 5th.
In the discus,
Tony Rountree (33.57m) was 3rd,
Matthew McWilliams (30.52m) was 6th, Fortson (29.44m) was 7th, Bailey (28.10m) finished 9th and Holdip (24.51m) claimed 10th.
Yastremski Johnson (10.88) finished third in the 100m race followed by Phillips (10.91) who was 4th,
Shaun Eason (11.13), Kindle (11.18), Norwood (11.20) and Hightower (11.39). Eason was 5th, Kindle was 6th, Norwood was 7th and Hightower was 9th.
Thompson claimed second in the 400m hurdles with a time of 56.60.
Billy Johnson (58.31) was 4th, Davis (1:00.09) was 5th, Howard Smith (1:02.36) was 7th,
Eszaunie Earls (1:02.76) was 8th and Cameron Fields (1:03.22) was 9th.
In the 400m,
Kaden Christy (50.38) was 4th, Bailey (52.77) finished 8th and Hardy (53.86) came in 13th.
Bailey was third in the javelin with a throw of 37.17m while McWilliams (36.25m) was 5th,
Jordan Scruggs (34.93m) was 6th and Fortson (30.38) was 9th.
Bailey was second in the high jump with a jump of 1.90m and in the shot put,
Tony Rountree placed second with a throw of 13.93m followed by McWilliams (12.55m) who was 4th, Fortson (11.37m) who was 6th, Guyton (11.22m) who was 7th and Bailey (9.24m) who claimed 8th.
Wilson was second in the triple jump with a leap of 13.37m and Thompson was 4th with a jump of 11.80m.
Cameron Frails finished 8th in the 800m race with a run of 2:09.11 while in the 110m hurdles, Thompson (15.27) was third,
Billy Johnson (15.52) was 5th, Earls (16.40) was 6th, Smith (17.83) finished 7th and Bailey (18.41) was 8th.
In the 200m race,
Yastremski Johnson (22.24) finished third, Davis (22.41) was 4th, Kindle (22.46) was 5th, Phillips (22.53) was 6th, Christy (22.69) claimed 7th, Hightower (22.89) was 11th and Hardy (23.22) was 18th.
The 4x200m relay team of
Yastremski Johnson, Christan Landry, Christy and Phillips was second in their race with a run of 1:28.63 while the 4x100m team of Phillips,
Yastremski Johnson, Kindle and Eason was third following their run of 42.28.
