GAINESVILLE, Fla.- Savannah State opened their indoor track & field season on February 7 by competing in the Celebration Pointe Classic which was held at the Alachua County Events Center.
The SSU women had one top ten finish and ended up in the top 20 six times.
Macada McDonald finished ninth in the 60m hurdles with a run of 9.26 while
Saniya Swain was 19th after being timed at 9.83.
Swain was 11th in the triple jump and 17th in the long jumps with leaps of 10.42m and 4.90m respectively.
In the throwing events,
Lauren Clark had a toss of 8.47m in the shot put and 7.86m in the weight throw. Clark claimed 17th in the shot put and 18th in the weight throw.
Victoria Taylor was 38th in the 60m race with a run of 8.15 and finished 47th in the 200m race with a time of 27.31.
In the 800m race,
Paideia Vaughn placed 45th after crossing the finish line at 2:58.11
The Savannah State men finished with four top ten finishes in addition to eight more who placed in the top 20.
In the high jump,
Dominique Bailey and
Raymond McKoy both had leaps of 1.88m which resulted in Bailey finished third and McKoy sixth.
Kajuan Davis was seventh in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.67 while
Nyzaveon Thompson (8.61m) was ninth and
Billy Johnson (8.80m) finished 15th.
Johnson finished 11th in the triple jump with a leap of 13.45m and
Xavier Wilson placed 13th with his jump of 13.37m.
In the long jump, Johnson had a jump of 6.19m and Wilson had a leap of 6.17m followed by Bailey who jumped 6.16m to finish 15th, 16th and 17th respectively.
Matthew McWilliams claimed 15th in the shot put with a toss of 12.96m and
Donovan Holdip had a throw of 11.79m in the weight throw to finish 17th.
In the other running events,
Tyler Phillips (7.03) was 21st in the 60m race,
Jamari Norwood (23.50) was 39th in the 200m,
Alex Loyd (52.95) placed 40th in the 400m and
Jadon Rountree (2:04.40) was 46th in the 800m race.
