ATLANTA, Ga.- The road woes continued for Savannah State on Monday night, following their 70-66 loss at Clark Atlanta.
The crowd of 1,044 at Epps Gymnasium saw the Tigers lose their seventh game in a row on the road, despite leading at halftime.
In a first half that had two ties and six lead changes, no team led by more than five points.
Down 27-23, SSU used consecutive 3-pointers from
Javonte Landy and
Michael Swift to go ahead 29-27 before the Panthers tied the game at 29.
With just over two minutes remaining in the first half, a free throw by
Jeremiah Barze followed by a jumper by
Qua King and a dunk by Barze that gave the Tigers a 34-29 advantage.
Savannah State led 34-32 at intermission and started the second half with a 8-2 spurt to extend their lead to 42-34 with 17:02 left.
Clark Atlanta (17-8, 14-4 SIAC) answered with a 13-0 run that put them ahead by five with 13:49 remaining .
SSU, who trailed 60-50 with 8:38 showing on the clock, strung together a 12-5 run to close their gap to 65-62 with just over two minutes left but were held without a field goal the rest of the game.
King and Barze both scored 13 points for the Tigers while Landy, Swift and Plain added ten points apiece.
Plain led the team in rebounds (9) while Barze had four assists and Landy had four steals.
Damerius Pattman and
Jerry Maxinaud scored four points each and
Jordan Mikel chipped in two points.
The Tigers (10-11, 8-9 SIAC) will travel to Allen on February 19.
