Wilson’s Career High Night Helps Tigers In Road Win At Spring Hill

MOBILE, Ala.- Chancellor Wilson scored a career-high 22 points to lead Savannah State to a 80-67 win over Spring Hill on Saturday afternoon at the Outlaw Recreation Center. 

It was the Tigers first road win of the season.

Wilson also had six rebounds, five steals and three assists.

After dropping their first four games of the season, SSU has now won three of their last four contests.

The game remained close for the first half of the first period and was tied at 21 with 9:23 showing on the clock.

That's when Savannah State began to get some separation, using a 14-2 run to go ahead 35-23 with 2:13 left in the first half.

The Badgers finished the half strong and were able to trim their deficit to seven as Savannah State went into the break with a 37-30 edge.

Spring Hill was able to draw within 40-38 early in the second period and took a 43-42 lead with 15:18 left.

After the Badgers tied the game at 50, Savannah State strung together a 17-3 run that basically put the contest out of reach at 67-53 with 8:05 remaining.

Spring Hill could only get as close as ten the rest of the way and SSU grabbed their largest lead of the contest with 18 seconds left at 80-65.

The game featured seven ties and 11 lead changes.

SSU's reserve players played a big role, scoring 29 points. As a team, the Tigers had 20 points off turnovers, 12 second chance points, 32 points in the paint and 15 fast break points.

Braylon Jackson, who hit all seven of his free throw attempts and knocked down a pair of 3-pointers, finished the game with 15 points. Javonte Landy, who made 7-of-8 free throw attempts, had 11 points and Zion Davis chipped in ten points.

The Tigers (3-5, 3-3 SIAC) will return to Tiger Arena on December 17 to face Tuskegee.
