JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- Savannah State continued their road swing with a 3-0 setback from Edward Waters on Friday evening.
In a match played at the Adams-Jenkins Complex, SSU lost the first set 25-22 which was followed by losses of 25-14 and 25-18.
Savannah State and Edward Waters split their season series, with SSU winning the battle of the Lady Tigers 3-2 on October 17 in Tiger Arena.
SSU made 22 errors in the match and had a .066 hitting percentage.
Edward Waters put together a 10-1 run in the first set to take a 15-9 advantage but SSU fought back and scored six unanswered points to take a 18-17 lead. Down the stretch, the scored was tied at 22 but EWU scored the final three points to take the win.
Savannah State fell behind 8-3 in the second set but after closing their gap to 9-7, EWU began to pull away with a 10-1 spurt to increase their lead to 21-9. SSU never got any closer than ten the rest of the way.
SSU found themselves down 7-2 in the final set but used three kills and a attack error to get within 7-6. Down 14-9, Savannah State rallied to close their gap to 14-13 before Edward Waters answered with four straight points. Late in the set, the Lady Tigers were down by four but EWU finished with a 4-1 rally to get the win.
Amiyah Walker had a double-double for Savannah State with 16 assists and 12 digs while
Aniyah Parks added 10 assists, 9 digs and 6 kills.
Savannah Everett had eight kills and
Nyalah Smith finished with seven.
Kira Raby and
Connelly Smith both had two aces while Everett, Parks and
Connelly Smith all had one block apiece.
Savannah State (15-8, 11-6 SIAC) will close their road swing with a trip to Fort Valley State on November 11, 2025.
