Parks' Triple Double Not Enough In Road Loss At Clark Atlanta

ATLANTA, Ga.- Savannah State swept Clark Atlanta in Tiger Arena on October 15 and Clark Atlanta returned the favor on Wednesday by sweeping the Lady Tigers, 3-0.

Clark Atlanta won the first set 28-26 and followed that with victories of 25-23 and 30-28 in the next two sets to win the match.

Freshman setter Aniyah Parks had a good showing with a triple double for SSU. The Jonesboro, Georgia native finished the match with 12 kills, 11 digs and 10 assists.

In the first set, SSU scored the first five points but Clark Atlanta scored the next four points to keep it close. The Panthers turned a 14-13 lead into a six point advantage with a 5-0 spurt but Savannah State responded with the next four points to cut CAU's lead to 19-17. Late in the set, SSU tied the scored at 26, following a kill by Savannah Everett, but the Panthers scored the next two points to earn the win.

The second set was just as close as the first one. The Panthers opened the set with three straight points before SSU answered with back-to-back kills by Connelly Smith and Everett. With the scored knotted at 15, CAU scored the next four points to go ahead 19-15 only to have Savannah State answer with two kills by Nyalah Smith and another by Amiyah Walker. Clark Atlantaa was able to go ahead 23-20 late in the set and that was enough to keep the Lady Tigers at a distance the rest of the way.

Leading 24-23, Savannah State was on the verge of winning the third set but Clark Atlanta scored the next two points to take a 25-24 lead. Kills by Parks and Everett put SSU ahead by two but CAU responded with the next two points to go ahead 27-26. The teams continued to trade points and with the set tied at 28, the Panthers scored the next two points to win the set and match.

Amiyah Walker added a double-double for SSU with 27 assists and 15 digs. 

Savannah Everett had 13 kills and four aces and Mina Ezikpe finished with three blocks.

SSU (15-7, 11-5) will travel to Edward Waters on November 7.
