MEMPHIS, Tenn.- Savannah State is still looking for their first won of the season following Thursday's 69-57 loss to LeMoyne-Owen in Bruce Hall/Johnson Gymnasium.
The loss drops the Tigers to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in the SIAC.
Down by 11 with just over five minutes remaining in the first period, SSU finished the half with a 11-3 run to go into the half down 26-23.
Zyere Edwards sparked the SSU run with four free throws and a 3-pointer while
Javonte Landy and
James Leach both made layups.
A layup by Landy early in the second half brought the Tigers within 26-25.
Trailing 36-31 at the 11:52 mark, the Magicians began to pull away with a 15-6 spurt to put SSU 14 points down at 51-37.
LeMoyne-Owen increased their lead to 17 but the Tigers used a jumper and 3-pointer from Edwards and a layup and two free throws by Landy to close their gap to 57-49 with 3:50 left.
The Magicians answered with a 7-1 run that extended their lead to 14 and SSU could not get any closer that 11 for the remainder of the contest.
Landy, Edwards and Leach all scored 16 points for the Tigers. Leach pulled down nine rebounds, Landy had eight rebounds, three assists and two steals while Edwards added two steals.
Braylon Jackson hit for four points,
Chancellor Wilson had three and
Kelvin Cochran scored two.
SSU finished the night shooting 45.7 percent from the field.
Savannah State will travel to Jackson, Tennessee to play Lane on November 22 at 5 p.m.
