Bell, Esquillen And Rountree Earn All-SIAC Honors

ATLANTA, Ga.- The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its 2025 Football All-SIAC teams and individual honorees on Tuesday, as voted by the conference's head coaches.

Savannah State linebacker Darrian Bell and defensive end Xavier Esquillen earned First Team All-SIAC accolades while defensive tackle Tony Rountree Jr. was named to the Second Team.

Bell led the conference in solo tackles (68) and was second in the SIAC in total tackles (93). The graduate student from Danville, Kentucky finished the regular season ninth in fumble recoveries (2), 14th in forced fumbles (2) and 15th in tackles for loss (11). Bell (6'2", 230-lbs.) also had 3.5 tackles for loss, two pass breakups and two quarterback hurries. His best game of the season came in the Tigers overtime win against Allen when he set a new SSU single game record with 23 tackles (19 solo) and was named SIAC Defensive Player of the Week.

Esquillen was second in the SIAC in sacks (11.5) and eighth in tackles for loss (13.5). He finished the season with 31 tackles, five pass breakups, three quarterback hurries, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. The Charlotte, North Carolina native had six tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks in a win over Miles and wrote his name in the Savannah State history book with a single game game record of five sacks in SSU's Homecoming win over Morehouse. The junior also had six tackles and five tackles for loss against Morehouse and was named the SIAC Defensive Player of the Week. Esquillen (6'2", 250-lbs.) was named the All-SIAC Second Team in 2024.

Rountree was eighth in the conference in sacks (6.5) and was ninth in tackles for loss (12). The senior from Augusta, Georgia ended his final season with 32 tackles, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. In the Tigers game with Albany State, Rountree (6-3, 330-lbs.) had a season-high seven tackles (4 solo), 2.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. He forced and recovered a fumble against Morehouse.
