THE GAME:
After three games on the road, Savannah State returns to the friendly confines of Theodore A. Wright Stadium and its just in time for HOMECOMING !!! It will be a Cat Fight on the Marsh with SSU hosting the Morehouse Maroon Tigers. Savannah State enters the game coming off of a 7-0 loss to Fort Valley State in a defensive battle in the Good Trouble Heritage Classic in Augusta, Georgia while Morehouse is riding a three game winning streak after a 31-7 Homecoming victory over Lane last week. This will be the first game between SSU and the Maroon Tigers since 2022. In a series that began in 1927, Savannah State has won the last six meetings and leads the overall series 16-13.

SSU's season opener against rival Edward Waters opened conference's broadcast slate on August 30th, followed by the Tigers' first road contest of the season at defending SIAC Champion, Miles on September 20th, The Tigers' next ESPN+ broadcast will be on Saturday, September 27th in a home match-up against Kentucky State, then the inaugural Good Trouble Heritage Classic vs. Fort Valley State on October 18th in Augusta, Ga. Savannah State's final regular season ESPN+ broadcast will be on November 1st as the Tigers will travel to face Albany State.
SAVANNAH STATE SPORTS NETWORK:
Savannah State will have three of their home games live-streamed on the Savannah State Sports Network with veteran broadcasters Curtis Foster and Terry Hines. Hines will be doing doing play-by-play and Foster will provide color analysis of the action. The three dates that will be live-streamed are September 6 (vs. Shorter), October 25 (vs. Morehouse) and November 8 (vs. Benedict).

LAST WEEK:
Savannah State played Fort Valley State in Augusta, Georgia in the Good Trouble Heritage Classic and lost a defensive battle 7-0. Neither offense was able to score any points and the lone touchdown came midway in the first quarter when a Wildcat player returned a punt 76 yards for a touchdown. Both defenses were the heroes of the day, with SSU holding the Wildcats offense to 175 yards.
Darrian Bell had a game-high ten tackles, 1 tackles for loss and 1 sacks while
Tony Rountree Jr. had 4 tackles, 3 tackles for loss and 1 sack.
Lucas Edenfield averaged 45.5 yards per punt and had a career-best 69 yard punt in the fourth quarter.
Joseph Hampton had 55 all-purpose yards for the Tigers.
LAST YEAR:
The last time Savannah State played Morehouse was in 2022. The Tigers traveled to Atlanta on September 24 and came away from B. T. Harvey Stadium with a 15-3 win. After a scoreless first quarter, Morehouse kicked a field midway in the second quarter for a 3-0 lead but SSU did the rest of the scoring on the day with
Jadon Adams running for a 38 yard touchdown and then passing for a 20 yard touchdown in addition to the Tigers getting a safety. Adams finished the contest with 152 passing yards and 52 rushing yards while
Tavare Brewton had eight tackles and 2 tackles for loss for the defense. The crowd of 7,250 saw the SSU defense hold the Maroon Tigers to just 143 yards (59 rushing). It was a sloppy game with Savannah State getting penalized ten times for 110 yards and Morehouse drawing nine penalties for 77 yards.

Morehouse head coach Terence Mathis was the Savannah State offensive coordinator/inside receivers coach for two seasons (2011-12). Savannah State head women's basketball coach Phillip Wallace Jr. was the Associate Athletics Director for Operations at Morehouse for two years (2022-24).Â

Morehouse began the season with four consecutive losses but enter the game with Savannah State riding a three-game winning streak with victories over Tuskegee, Central State and Lane. The Maroon Tigers offense averages 21.29 points and 340.4 yards a game. They are also the best passing team in the conference. Miles Scott has thrown for 1,740 yards with 13 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. Kamrin Brunson has 364 receiving yards and 5 touchdowns while Nicholas Woodford has ran for 357 yards and 4 touchdowns. Their defense sits at the bottom of the rankings, giving up 28.3 points and 381.3 yards a night as is led by linebacker Sean Johnson who has been in on 66 tackles.
