SAVANNAH, Ga.- Savannah State ran their winning streak to five with a 3-0 win over Clark Atlanta in a match played in Tiger Arena on Wednesday evening.
The wins of 25-10, 25-23 and 25-7 improved the Lady Tigers overall record to 12-4 and their SIAC record to 8-2.
SSU finished the match with 47 points, 35 kills, 4 aces, 8 blocks, 33 assists and 58 digs.
The crowd of over 200 saw Savannah State jump out to a 7-1 advantage in the opening set but CAU battled back to get as close as 10-7. The Lady Tigers answered with runs of 8-0 and 7-0 to put the set away.
The second set was much closer. With SSU leading 23-21, a service error by the Panthers put Savannah State ahead 24-21 but CAU scored twice more to pull within 24-23 before another CAU service error gave SSU the final point they needed to win.
Savannah State scored the first six points of the third set. Ahead 8-2, SSU scored the next six points to increase their lead to 14-2 and a 6-1 spurt gave the Lady Tigers a 19-4 edge. With a 19-5 lead, Savannah State ended the set with a 6-2 surge to claim victory.
Amiyah Walker had a double-double with 24 assists and 12 digs.
Savannah Everett finished with 13 kills and
Aaliyah Saunders had four blocks.
Saniaa Dickey chipped in 15 digs while
Kira Raby had 13. Walker, Saunders and Everett all had one ace apiece.
Savannah State will host Edward Waters on October 17 at 6 p.m.
