Ticket Information
Tickets may be purchased at the gate. The ticket gate will open 60 minutes before the first game of each day. Admission for each day of the tournament is: Adults ($10), Children under 12 ($5) and children under 2 (Free). Tickets are available via cash or credit card at the main entrance. Parking
Parking is available for free at the Delaware Parking Garage and the West Parking Garage. The Delaware garage is located between the Naimoli Softball Field and Naimoli Lacrosse Field, while the West garage is located north of the field. INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.- Savannah State has been selected to play in the Tampa Regional of the 2024 NCAA Division II Baseball Championship, and will open play Thursday, May 16 against host Tampa South Regional at 1 p.m.
Savannah State is seed eighth in the South Region while Tampa (41-7) is the top seed.
Other teams in the South Regional include St. Leo (38-11), Embry-Riddle (31-19), Lee (37-16), Auburn-Montgomery (31-22), Delta State (32-22) and West Florida (32-21).
SSU finished the regular season with a 28-13 record and entered the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament as the number four seed with a 21-12 mark. During the tournament, the Tigers defeated Miles 4-3 and Albany State 19-3 before losing to Edward Waters 9-0. SSU stayed alive by eliminating Albany State 7-6 before falling to Edward Waters in the championship game 10-5.
Savannah State (31-15) earned the SIAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Baseball Tournament, due to Edward Waters being in the final year of their three-year transition to the NCAA from the NAIA.
This is the programs third trip to the NCAA Baseball Championships and their first since 2013.
The Tigers 1999 team won the SIAC tournament participated as the fourth seed in the Division II St. Petersburg South Regional. SSU lost to Florida Southern 6-5 in the opening game and were eliminated following a 15-6 lost to St. Leo. Savannah State had a 16-1 SIAC record and finished the season 38-12 under Jamie Rigdon.
In 2013, SSU won the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament and earned an automatic bid to the Division I Tallahassee Regional. The Tigers were shut out by Florida State in their first game 10-0 and lost a heart-breaker to Alabama 3-2 in the elimination game. Savannah State finished the season with a 33-23 record and was 17-7 in the MEAC.
Savannah State enters the tournament ranked in the top ten in five categories in Division II.
The Tigers are second in on base percentage (.458), third in sacrifice flies (41) and stolen bases (176), fifth in triples (23) and sixth in batting average (.341).
SSU's roster is led by nine All-SIAC players which includes all conference first team selections
Kendal Spencer and
D'Sean Prinkleton.
Spencer, a Tampa native who transferred to SSU from Lake Sumter Community College is batting .369 with a .614 slugging average. The junior outfielder has 65 hits, 15 doubles, five triples, six home runs, 57 RBI and has scored 54 times. he also has stolen 30 bases in 37 attempts.
Prinkleton is a transfer from UVA Wise. The 6-foot-1 outfielder has a .376 batting average and a .548 slugging percentage. A native of Canton, Georgia, he has tallied 59 hits, 13 doubles, one triple, four home runs and 52 RBI while scoring 58 times. He has also stolen 33 bases.
Spencer is second in the nation in sacrifice flies with nine and
Hakem Smith is third in Division II in triples with seven.
Top pitchers include all conference selections
Jose Santiago,
Andrew Mann,
Brevin Smith and
Brayden Thomas.
Santaigo, a three-time all conference selection has a 3.57 ERA and a 7-4 record to go with his 75.2 innings pitched and 53 strikeouts. Mann, who is also a Tampa native, has a 6-1 record and a 3.91 ERA. He has logged 50.2 innings on the hill with 50 strikeouts. Smith has struck out 38 in his 52 innings on the mound. The freshman has a 4.50 ERA and a 5-5 record.
Regional competition will begin May 16 and championship bracket games will take place June 1-8 at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina.
Eight teams advance to Cary and will be re-seeded before double-elimination games to decide the national champion.
