SAVANNAH, Ga.- Savannah State split a doubleheader with Miles on March 29, 2024 in games played at Tiger Field.

SSU won the first game 9-7 but Miles won the second contest 13-6.

At the end of the sixth inning in the first game, Savannah State led 4-2 but the Bears scored five times in the eighth to take a 7-4 lead.
Â
The Tigers matched Miles in the bottom of the eighth with five runs on four hits to take a 9-7 advantage.
Â
In the top of the ninth, the Bears had two players to draw walks but they could not score any runs and Savannah State held on to win.

Miles scored a run in the first inning and SSU tied the game at 1-1 in the fourth when
Jadon Oden led off with a double and scored on a double by
Kendal Spencer.
Â
The Tigers sent three runners across home plate in the fifth inning with
William Mahoney IV hitting a two-run double and then scored when
Jadon Oden hit a single to right field.
Â
Miles cut their deficit to 4-2 with a run in the sixth before exploding for five runs in the eighth for a 7-4 lead.

In the bottom of the eighth,
Hakem Smith and
Addrian McNeal Jr hit back-to-back singles and
Jason Miller drew a walk to load the bases. A ground-out by Desmore Joseph allowed
Hakem Smith to score. William Mahoney reached base on an error by the first baseman to re-load the bases and a walk to
Jadon Oden allowed
Addrian McNeal Jr to come home. Back-to-back singles by
Kendal Spencer and
Hunter Bradshaw also produced runs with
Kendal Spencer's single up the middle allowing
Jason Miller and
William Mahoney IV to score and
Hunter Bradshaw's single to the shortstop scoring
Jadon Oden to give SSU a two-run lead.

SSU had 11 hits in the game while Miles had ten. Both teams made two errors apiece.
Â
Kendal Spencer had four hits and three RBI, while
Jadon Oden had two hits, two RBI and scored twice and
William Mahoney IV scored twice and had two RBI.

Andrew Mann pitched six innings for the Tigers and struck out seven batters.
Â
Nic Copen had two hits and two RBI for the Bears.
Â
Miles broke open the second game with five runs in the fourth inning and six more in the sixth to get the win.

Savannah State took the early lead with a run in the second inning when
Addrian McNeal Jr reached base on an error by the shortstop and scored on a ground-out by
Hakem Smith.
Â
Miles tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the third but the Tigers answered when
Jadon Oden singled and later scored on a single by
Addrian McNeal Jr for a 2-1 lead.

In the top of the fourth, the Bears sent five runners across home plate to go ahead 6-2. Savannah State responded with three runners scoring with
Hunter Bradshaw hitting a RBI single and
Jason Miller chipping in a two-run single up the middle to slice SSU's deficit to 6-5.

The Bears scored six times off two hits in the sixth to expand their lead to 12-5.

Kendal Spencer solo home run in the bottom half of the inning was all Savannah State could answer with while Miles tacked on another run in the top of the seventh to close out the scoring.

Both teams made three errors in the second game. SSU out-hit the Bears 10 to 9.

Addrian McNeal Jr and
William Mahoney IV all had two hits each for the Tigers.
Jadon Oden scored twice and
Jason Miller drove in two runs.

The Tigers used six pitchers in the game who combined to strike out nine batters but also issue 11 walks.

Camden Matthews led Miles with three hits and five RBI. He also struck out six batters in 3.1 innings on the mound.

SSU (19-7, 14-6 SIAC) and Miles (16-15, 14-6 SIAC) will play again at 12 noon on March 30.
