MOBILE, Ala.- Playing their first road game of the season, Savannah State split a double-header with Spring Hill on March 2, 2024.
The Tigers lost the first game 11-1 but bounced back to win the nightcap 13-5.
Both games were played at Sims-Galle Field.
In the first game, SSU suffered their first loss of the season. The Badgers scored four runs in the third inning and added three more in the fourth to take a 7-0 lead.
Spring Hill went ahead 9-0 with a pair of runs in the sixth inning.
SSU scored their lone run in the top of the seventh.
D'Sean Prinkleton led off the inning with a single to left field and advanced to second base on a ground-out by
Hakem Smith. A sacrifice fly to center field by Kendal Smith was deep enough to allow Prinkleton to score.
Spring Hall scored twice in the bottom of the inning for the final runs of the game.
Prinkleton had both of Savannah State's hits in the contest.
Jose Santiago was tagged with the loss after giving up six hits, seven runs and three walks in 3.1 innings. He also struck out two batters.
The Tigers left nine men on base in the second game but were able to score 13 runs off 14 hits to earn the victory.
William Mahoney IV hit a solo home run and Smith hit a RBI triple in the third inning to give Savannah State a 2-0 advantage.
SSU scored three times in the fifth.
Prinkleton led off with a single and scored on a double by Smith.
Hunter Bradshaw reached on an error and a error by the first baseman allowed Smith to score. A single by Chandler Hits sent Bradshaw to third base and a sacrifice fly by
Farah Castillo allowed Bradshaw to cross home plate and give the Tigers a 5-0 cushion.
Savannah State sent seven runners across home plate on five hits in the sixth inning.
Addrian McNeal Jr and Prinkleton hit back-to-back singles and Smith drew a walk to load the bases for Spencer who hit a single to right field that scored McNeal and Prinkleton. Bradshaw followed with a double to left field that allowed Smith to score. Hicks and Castillo drew walks to load the bases for
Brevin Smith who hit a bases clearing double to center field for a 12-0 lead.
Spring Hill (10-7, 7-1 SIAC) answered with five runs in the bottom of the inning but the Tigers scored once more in the seventh on a Prinkleton solo home run.
Prinkleton went 4-for-5 with four runs scored in the game and
Brevin Smith drove in three runs.
Hakem Smith hit a double and a triple, scored twice and drive in two runs for SSU while
Andrew Mann struck out four batters in six innings to earn the win.
The win in the second game give Savannah State a 11-1 overall record and a 7-1 SIAC record.
