Savannah State Falls To Badgers In Extra Innings, 7-6

MOBILE, Ala.- Savannah State fell to 11-2 overall and 7-2 in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference following a 7-6 loss to Spring Hill, in a game played on March 3, 2024 at Sims-Galle Field.
 
The rubber game took 11 innings to complete.
 
Spring Hill (11-7, 8-1 SIAC) won two of the three games played during the weekend series.
 
The Tigers broke a scoreless tie in the top of the third inning with a run as Jason Miller singled to left field and stole second. A single by Addrian McNeal Jr allowed Miller to advance to third base and a error by the first baseman allowed Miller to score for a 1-0 lead.
 
Spring Hill scored three run in the sixth to take the lead  but SSU added four more runs in the top of the eighth to go back in front , 5-3.
 
William Mahoney IV reached base on an error and Miller drew a walk. Mahoney and Miller scored on a double to right field by McNeal. D'Sean Prinkleton drew a walk and Hakem Smith laid down a bunt to load the bases for Kendal Spencer who hit a single up the middle that sent McNeal home. A sacrifice fly by Hunter Bradshaw brought home Prinkleton for a two-run lead.
 
The Tigers went ahead 6-3 in the top of the ninth when Miller scored on a sacrifice fly hit by Prinkleton.
 
Spring Hill scored three times in the bottom half of the ninth to force extra innings.
 
Both teams left two runners on base in the tenth but could not score.
 
SSU had two runners on base in the top of the 11th but could not get anyone across home plate while the lead-off hitter for the Badgers singled and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly to end the game.
 
Savannah State ended the game with six runs off 11 hits but made four errors and left 11 runners on base. Spring Hill left 12 runners on base, made three errors and scored seven runs off ten hits.
 
The Tigers used five pitchers who combined to strike out eight batters but issue seven walks.
 
Luis De La Cruz was hit with the loss on the mound.
 
McNeal had three hits and two RBI for SSU while Smith and Chandler Hicks had two hits each. Miller scored three times.
 
Savannah State will travel to Claflin on March 5 for a non-conference game at 3 p.m.
