SAVANNAH, Ga.- The Savannah State baseball team improved their season record to 14-2 with a double-header sweep of Clark Atlanta on March 10, 2024 at Tiger Field. SSU won the opener 12-2 and completed the sweep with a 6-4 win in the second game.

Andrew Mann and
Francisco Arraut combined to limit the Panthers to five hits in the first game.
Â
Mann struck out eight and gave up one earned run in his 6.1 innings on the mound while Arraut pitched two-thirds of an inning and did not give up any hits, walks or runs.

CAU scored a run in the top of the first inning and the Tigers answered in the bottom of the first when
Hakem Smith hit a two-run single to center field that scored
D'Sean Prinkleton and
Addrian McNeal Jr.

Savannah State scored eight runs off of four hits in the fourth inning.
Â
Smith drew a walk and
Jadon Oden singled to put runners on the corners. Smith scored on a single to left field by
William Mahoney IV and a single by Desmore Joseph sent Mahoney to second base and Oden to third to load the bases. Consecutive walks to
Jason Miller, McNeal and Prinkleton allowed three more runs to cross home plate and a walk to
Hunter Bradshaw brought home Miller. Smith hit a two-run single to right field which scored Prinkleton and McNeal and a sacrifice fly by Mahoney to center field allowed Bradshaw to score for a 10-1 lead.

CAU scored their second run in the top of the seventh. Savannah State loaded the bases in their half of the inning and walks to McNeal and
Kendal Spencer allowed Mahoney and Miller to cross home plate for a 12-run lead.

Smith went 2-for-3 at the plate for SSU with four RBI. Oden also had two hits and McNeal and Mahoney both drove in two runs. McNeal, Prinkleton, Mahoney and Miller all scored twice.

Gabriel Williams had a pair of hits for the Panthers. Andrew Garner was the losing pitcher.

Smith hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first inning in the second game that scored McNeal to give Savannah State a 1-0 lead.

Chandler Hicks led off the fourth inning with a single and scored on a double by Miller.
Farah Castillo drew a walk and he and Miller later scored on a sacrifice fly by McNeal to increase their lead to 4-0.

A two-run single by Prinkleton in the sixth expanded the Tigers lead to 6-0.

Clark Atlanta pushed across four run in the seventh but SSU held on for the win as they improved their conference record to 9-2.

Castillo scored twice for Savannah State and Prinkleton drove in two runs for the winners.
Brevin Smith was the winning pitcher with seven strikeouts, giving up five hits and no runs in his five innings.

Kentavious Veal went 3-for-3 at the plate for CAU (3-16, 1-9 SIAC) and Terry Cruz was the losing pitcher.
