Savannah State Loses To CAU In 14 Innings

SAVANNAH, Ga.- In a game that took over five hours and 14 innings to play, Clark Atlanta came out on top as they handed Savannah State their first home loss of the season, 10-8 in a game played at Tiger Field on march 11, 2024.
 
Andrew Gardner's two run single in the top of the 14th broke a 8-8 tie to give the Panthers a two-run lead.
 
In the bottom of the 14th, Addrian McNeal Jr popped up for the first out and D'Sean Prinkleton was issued a walk. A single to right field by Kendal Spencer moved Prinkleton to second base but the next two SSU batters could not reach base as Hunter Bradshaw popped up for the second out and Hakem Smith flied out to right field for the final out of the game.
 
The teams combined for 18 runs, 35 hits, four errors and left 35 runners on base.
 
CAU used three pitchers while Savannah State had six pitcher take the mound.
 
Down 1-0,  Jadon Oden scored a run in the bottom of the first inning for the Tigers to tie the game. Oden hit a sacrifice fly in the third inning that allowed a runner to score for a 2-1 advantage.
 
The Panthers went ahead 4-2 with three runs in the top of the fifth.
 
Savannah State also scored three times in their half of the inning at bat. McNeal hit a single and advanced to third base on a double by Prinkleton. A ground-out by Spencer allowed McNeal to score and a single by Bradshaw sent Prinkleton across home plate to tie the game. Brahshaw scored on a wild pitch to give SSU a 5-4 lead.
 
With the bases loaded in the sixth, McNeal hit into a double play which allowed a runner to score and after Prinkleton was intentionally walked Spencer hit a RBI single to left field that increased the Tigers lead to 7-4.
 
Clark Atlanta tied the game in the seventh with three runs.
 
Neither team was able to score in innings 8-12 but both found home plate in the 13th inning.
 
CAU had the bases loaded and when Khalil Manuel was it by a pitch, it allowed Justin Johnson to score.
 
Smith drew a walk for Savannah State and advanced to second on a ground out by Oden. Smith scored when William Mahoney IV reached base on an error by the short stop to tie the game at eight.
 
Bradshaw had four hits for the Tigers, Oden collected three and Prinkleton, Spencer and Chandler Hicks all had two hits apiece. Spencer had two RBI and Prinkleton scored twice.
 
Gerald Toledo III was the losing pitcher for SSU (14-3, 9-3 SIAC).
 
Demetrius McCants earned the win for the Panthers while Mario Cuevas had four hits.
 
Savannah State will host Embry-Riddle on March 12 at 3 p.m. in a non-conference game.
