Tigers Sweep Kentucky State To Remain Undefeated

SAVANNAH, Ga.- The Savannah State baseball team completed a three-game sweep of Kentucky State on February 18, with a double-header win at Tiger Field.
 
Savannah State won the first game 10-2 and earned a 7-6 win in the second game.
 
In the first game, Andrew Mann pitched seven inning and gave up two runs while recording nine strikeouts to earn the win.
 
At the plate, Addrian McNeal did the damage with a three-run home run in the fourth inning.
 
Antonio Chambers hit a two run home run for the Thorobreds in the top of the second inning for a 2-0 lead but SSU responded in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game.
 
Hunter Bradshaw was hit by a pitch and Jacob Rushin and Farah Castillo drew walks to load the bases. KSU pitcher Eric Turner was called for a balk which allowed Rushin to score and a sacrifice fly by McNeal was deep enough to allow Castillo to cross home plate to tie the game at 2-2.
 
In the bottom of the fourth, with two outs, Desmore Joseph and William  Mahoney hit back-to-back singles and scored on a home run over the left field fence by McNeal to put the Tigers ahead for good, 5-2.
 
Savannah State added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning as Joseph singled and scored on a wild pitch, McNeal singled and scored on a single by Hakem Smith and D'Sean Prinkleton walked and scored when Bradshaw drew a bases loaded walk, to increase their lead to 8-2.
 
In the bottom of the eighth, Prinkleton singled, advanced to second base on a throwing error and stole third. Smith drew a walk and stole second to put runners in scoring position for Kendal Spencer who hit a sacrifice fly to right field which allowed Prinkleton to score and single by Bradshaw brought home Smith for the final run of the game.
 
McNeal ended the game with two hits and scored twice while Prinkleton and Joseph both had two hits and scored two runs. Bradshaw also had a pair of hits and drove in two runs.
 
Savannah State held a 4-0 lead after two innings of play in the second contest.
 
In the first inning, Prinkleton walked and Smith was hit by a pitch and both runners came home on a single by Spencer. Spencer later scored on a wild pitch for a 3-0 advantage.
 
McNeal led off the second with a single and scored on a sacrifice fly by Prinkleton to increase the SSU lead to 4-0.
 
Kentucky State trimmed the Tigers lead to 4-3 in the top of the third inning but SSU answered in the bottom half of the inning when Chandler Hicks singled and scored on a throwing error by the pitcher to go ahead by two.
 
Rushin and McNeal bot hit RBI singles in the fifth inning to give SSU some breathing room with a 7-3 lead.
 
However, the Thorobreds scored twice in the sixth inning and once more in the seventh to make it a close game.
 
During the nightcap, SSU left ten runners on base while Kentucky State stranded six.
 
Spencer drove in two runs for the Tigers and Hicks scored twice. McNeal, Rushin, Spencer and Jadon Oden all collected two hits apiece.
 
Brevin Smith started on the mound for Savannah State and pitched 2.2 innings before giving way to Gregory Gonzalez who pitched three innings and struck out two to earn the win. Adonis Perez pitched up the save, after going 1.1 inning with two strikeouts.
 
Solomon Reed took the loss for KSU while Isaiah Zepeda-Felix drove in three runs.
 
Savannah State (6-0, 3-0 SIAC) will host Morris College at Tiger Field on February 20 at 3 p.m.
