SAVANNAH, Ga.-
Kendal Spencer hit two home runs and
Brevin Smith hit a two-run triple to help Savannah State improve to 7-0 with a 16-0 shutout of Morris College, in a game played on February 20 at Tiger Field.

The Tigers made an early statement by scoring seven times off one hit in the first inning.

Addrian McNeal,
D'Sean Prinkleton and
Hakem Smith all drew walks to load the bases. Spencer was hit by a pitch which allowed McNeal to score and
Hunter Bradshaw reached base on an error by the first baseman which allowed Prinkleton to come home. Spencer scored on a wild pitch and Bradshaw scored when
Farah Castillo hit a single to center field.
Chandler Hicks, who was hit by a pitch, and Castillo both scored on wild pitches for the 7-0 lead.

Spencer hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth and Bradshaw followed with a single to right field and later scored on a single by Hicks to increase the SSU lead to 9-0.

Savannah State sent seven more base runners across home plate in the sixth off four hits.

Spencer led off with a solo shot home run,
Jason Miller drew a walk and
Jadon Oden singled to the pitcher. Miller scored on a wild pitch and following a walk to Castillo, Oden scored on a balk by the pitcher. Hicks drew a walk and
Jacob Rushin hit a RBI single that sent Castillo home. Smith blasted a triple that sent home Hicks and Rushin and he scored on a passed ball for the final run of the day.

The Hornets left runners in scoring position in the second and fourth innings but could not push any to cross home plate.

Savannah State ended the day with ten hits while only making one error.

Spencer went 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBI and three runs scored while Smith had two RBI.

Oden and Rushin both had two hits and Bradshaw, Castillo and Hicks all scored twice.

The Tigers used seven pitchers to combine to throw a two-hitter and record six strikeouts.
Luis De La Cruz started the game for SSU and claimed the win. Also seeing action on the mound were
Solomon Masters, Gerald Toledo,
Brayden Thomas,
Myles Barrett, Rodney Evans and
Evan Kehren.

Freddie Smith was tagged with the loss for Morris College (1-2).

Savannah State will return to conference play when they host LeMoyne-Owen on February 24-25 at Tiger Field for a three-game series.
