SAVANNAH, Ga.-The Lady Tiger volleyball squad began their final two-game homestand Thursday evening by hosting SIAC East Division foe Clark Atlanta to Tiger Arena. Savannah State was able to breeze past the Lady Panthers with a straight sets (25-15, 25-17, 25-11) victory, also clinching a season sweep of CAU in the process.
Savannah State (11-8, 10-6 SIAC) built an early five point lead in Set #1 and were able to close out Clark Atlanta (13-12, 10-8 SIAC) to take an early 1-0 lead. Set #2 was a bit more challenging for SSU as the Lady Panthers roared out to a 5-0 advantage to start. The Lady Tigers were able to methodically chop down the lead, ultimately tying the set up at 8-8. Later, Savannah State was able to get some separation, taking a five point lead and finishing the set on an 8-4 run to win 25-17 and lead the match 2-0. The final set of the match proved to be nothing short of Lady Tiger dominance as SSU cruised to a 25-11 victory and earning the three game sweep.
For the match, Savannah State hit .255 in the match on 40 kills, while Clark Atlanta posted a .034 hitting percentage with 26 kills. SSU also had a 6-3 edge in service aces, 5-3 in total blocks, 37-26 in assists, and 65-50 in digs.
Savannah Everett once again led all players with 16 kills, while also adding a service ace.
Jasmine Nettles had a solid all-around game with nine kills, one service ace, and one block, while
Amiyah Walker turned in a six kill, three block, 23 assist, and 12 dig evening for SSU.
Kloe Ludy also led all players in digs with 19 on the night.
Savannah State will honor four seniors who will take to the floor for their final home match on Friday evening as SSU hosts Interstate 95 rival Edward Waters. First serve is slated for 6:00pm at Tiger Arena.
