Lady Tigers Prepare For SIAC Women's Volleyball Championship

Albany, Georgia-After a program changing 2024 regular season, Head Coach Roselidah Obunaga and the Savannah State women's volleyball squad now turns their attentions to postseason play as they prepare to take part in the 2024 Cricket SIAC Women's Volleyball Championship. The Lady Tigers captured the East Division's #2 seed, and will open play on Thursday in the tournament's opening contest against West Division #3 seed, Central State at 10:00pm at Albany State University.

The Lady Tigers finished the 2024 regular season with a program record 14-8 overall mark, including going 13-6 in SIAC play. Savannah State will be making their first appearance at the SIAC Tournament since 2022, when the Lady Tigers were the #3 seed out of the East Division.

The matchup between the Lady Tigers and Marauders will be the second meeting between the two teams this season, with Savannah State sweeping CSU 3-0 at the SIAC Crossover in Memphis, Tennessee. Since rejoining the SIAC in 2019, Savannah State and Central State have met six times, with SSU holding a 4-2 series advantage.

SSU statistically ranked fourth in the conference in hitting percentage at .171, fourth in points and points per set (1,373 points and 15.26 points per set), second in assists and assists per set (1,027 assists, 11.41 assists per set), and third kills and kills per set (1,102 kills, 12.24 kills per set). Defensively, the Lady Tigers led the SIAC in total digs and digs per set (1,522 digs, 16.91 digs per set), and were 10th in blocks (133.0 blocks, 1.48 blocks per set).

Junior outside hitter Savannah Everett has paced the Lady Tiger attack all season long, leading the SIAC in total kills (345) and being second in kills per set (3.83). Everett is also second in points (355.5) and points per set (3.95). Senior libero Kloe Ludy leads the SIAC in total digs (425), and digs per set (4.72) to spearhead the Lady Tiger defensive attack. Senior transfer outside hitter Jasmine Nettles is second in the league in total kills (302), and kills per set (3.39), while freshman setter Amiyah Walker placed fourth in the regular year in the conference with a 6.83 assist per set mark.

The winner of the Central State will face the winner of the #1W Spring Hill and #4E Clark Atlanta in the semifinal round on Friday, November 22nd at 4:00pm.
