SAVANNAH, Ga.- Despite double-double efforts by
Jasmine Nettles,
Tiana Curry and
Amiyah Walker, Savannah State lost a SIAC volleyball match-up with rival Fort Valley State on October 28, 2024.
The crowd inside Willcox-Wiley Gymnasium saw the teams split the first two sets with the Wildcats winning the first set 25-17 and SSU winning the second set by the same score. The final two sets were claimed by FVSU with back-to-back 25-23 victories.
Savannah State led 21-16 in the third set before FVSU closed their deficit to 22-21. A kill by
Savannah Everett put the Lady Tigers ahead 23-21 but Fort Valley State ended the set with a 4-0 run to get the win.
SSU found themselves down 24-18 in the fourth set before getting as close as 24-23, thanks to a pair of Fort Valley State errors along with two kills by Nettles and another by Everett. However, a win was not to be as the last point was scored by the Wildcats as they walked away with a hard fought win to improve to 11-4 and 9-4 in the SIAC.
Nettles ended the match with 20 digs, 15 kills, three aces, one assist and one block. Curry added 19 assists, 13 digs, eight kills and two blocks while Walker had 28 assists, 15 digs, three kills and one block.
Everett finished the night with 15 kills and six digs,
Kloe Ludy had 22 digs,
Saniaa Dickey had six digs,
Aaliyah Saunders had three kills and four blocks while
Ayanna Klaiber-Norris had eight kills, seven digs and a block.
Savannah State (8-6, 7-4 SIAC) will play their next three matches on the road, staring with Clark Atlanta on October 29 at 6 p.m.
