SSU Loses To Fort Valley State, 3-1

SAVANNAH, Ga.- Despite double-double efforts by Jasmine Nettles, Tiana Curry and Amiyah Walker, Savannah State lost a  SIAC volleyball  match-up with rival Fort Valley State on October 28, 2024.

The crowd inside Willcox-Wiley Gymnasium saw the teams split the first two sets with the Wildcats winning the first set 25-17 and SSU winning the second set by the same score. The final two sets were claimed by FVSU with back-to-back 25-23 victories.

Savannah State led 21-16 in the third set before FVSU closed their deficit to 22-21. A kill by Savannah Everett put the Lady Tigers ahead 23-21 but Fort Valley State ended the set with a 4-0 run to get the win.

SSU found themselves down 24-18 in the fourth set before getting as close as 24-23, thanks to a pair of Fort Valley State errors along with two kills by Nettles and another by Everett. However, a win was not to be as the last point was scored by the Wildcats as they walked away with a hard fought win to improve to 11-4 and 9-4 in the SIAC.

Nettles ended the match with 20 digs, 15 kills, three aces, one assist and one block. Curry added 19 assists, 13 digs, eight kills and two blocks while Walker had 28 assists, 15 digs, three kills and one block.
