SAVANNAH, Ga.- Savannah State moved into second place in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Eastern Division standings, after a 3-0 win over Benedict, in a match played October 19, 2024 in Tiger Arena.
It was the Lady Tigers fourth victory in a row as they improved to 8-5 overall and 7-3 in conference play.
SSU had wins of 25-8, 27-25, 25-20.
In the opening set, Savannah State trailed 1-2 but answered with runs of 8-0, 6-0 and 5-0 to walk away with the 17-point victory.
The second set, which had eight ties, was much closer and was decided at the end. With SSU down 24-25,
Savannah Everett had a kill and
Jasmine Nettles had back-to-back kills to earn the win.
Benedict scored the first four points of the third set and their lead grew to 8-2 at one point before Savannah State rallied to tied the set at 8-8. With SSU down 16-17, Benedict committed two errors and back-to-back kills by Everett and Nettles put Savannah State ahead 20-17. Ahead by two, SSU received a kill from Everett and two from Nettles to expand their advantage to 24-18. After Benedict scored twice to close their gap to four, a kill by Nettles ended the game.
Everett ended the match with 14 kills while Nettles added 13.
Tiana Curry had two aces, 15 assists and nine digs while
Aaliyah Saunders finished with three blocks,
Amiyah Walker chipped in 22 assists and seven digs and
Kloe Ludy contributed 15 digs.
Savannah State will continue their home-stand by hosting SIAC Eastern Division leader Albany State on October 25 at 6 p.m. in Willcox-Wiley Gym.
