Allena Norton had 16 kills and
Destinee Langston added 13 more as Savannah State University ran their winning streak to five games with a 3-1 victory over Fort Valley State University, in a match played September 15 in Tiger Arena.

SSU won the match with scores of 25-14, 24-26, 27-25 and 26-24.

The win improved Savannah State to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action.

In the first set, the Lady Tigers moved the ball around well, getting multiple kills from Langston, Norton and
Tori Lasley to win 25-14. With the scored tied at three, back-to-back kills by Langston started a 5-0 run that gave SSU a 8-3 advantage and they never looked back.

After dropped the second set 24-26, SSU rallied to win the third set 27-25.

The second set featured five ties and five lead changes. Fort Valley State scored ten straight points to go ahead 13-3 but SSU was able to whittle down their deficit. Down by five, Savannah State rallied to tie the set at 23 and again at 24 thanks to consecutive kills by
Montana DiSegna, Norton,
Tiana Curry and Norton again and but a pair of errors paved the way for the Wildcats to earn the win.

The third set was just as tight as the previous set. FVSU began to pull away and had a 24-21 lead before Savannah State finish the set with a trio of kills and a block by Norton to get the 27-25 victory.

The Wildcats jumped out to a 6-2 advantage in the fourth set but Savannah State quickly rallied to take a 7-6 lead after kills by Lasley, Langston, Curry and
Jessee Grubesic. Tied at 24, back-to-back kills by Langston won set for SSU, 26-24 and the match.

Grubesic had a pair of aces, 37 assists and 14 digs for the Lady Tigers on the night while Norton had four blocks.
Kloe Ludy added 28 digs and Langston had 23.

Morgan Herbert had 16 kills for Fort Valley State (4-4, 1-3 SIAC). Syraih Wint had three aces, Nia Mack had five blocks, Laiani McCullough had 20 assists and Nakaia Berkley had 20 digs.

Savannah State will be back in action on Sept. 16 at Albany State University.
