SAVANNAH, Ga.- The Savannah State University volleyball team dominated Paine College 3-0 on September 13, 2023 in Tiger Arena. The non-conference win gives the Lady Tigers a 3-1 overall record.

Savannah State won with scores of 25-7, 25-20 and 25-15.

SSU had their best hitting percentage of the season against Paine. The Lady Tigers were .250 on the night.
Dorothea Ruffin played in two sets and hit 1.000 while
Jaeda Austin hit .500 in the two sets she played in.
Destinee Langston hit .345 while playing in all three sets.

Savannah State ended the night holding the advantage in kills, aces, assists and digs.
Â
Langston had 14 kills on the evening while
Allena Norton had 10. Amariah Wynee had two aces and
Mina Ezikpe had three blocks.
Jessee Grubesic (23) and
Sydney Harville (12) led the team in assists while
Kloe Ludy had 21 digs.

In the first set, the score was knotted at three apiece but Savannah State reeled off six straight points to go ahead 9-3. Ahead 11-6, a kill by Norton started a rally where SSU scored 11 consecutive points to increase their advantage to 22-6.

Savannah State led by as many as six points in the second set but Paine kept it close and trimmed their deficit to just one point (20-19). Back-to-back kills by Langston and Ruffin gave SSU some breathing room as they went on to win by five.

Ruffin had five of her six kills in the third set as the Lady Tigers put Paine away early and left them to play catch-up.

Paine, who is still looking for their first win of the season, was led by Kelsey Williams who had 10 digs, 12 assists, four blocks and three kills.
