NEW ORLEANS, La.- The United State Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association has announced its 2023 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field All-Region honors. The Top-5 individuals in each event from each region earned All-Region honors. Each athlete is ranked based on their best mark of the season.
Earning All-Region honors from Savannah State University were sophomores
Winfred Porter, Aiden Holliman and
Kennedy Spears. Porter and Holliman are members of the SSU men's track & field squad while Spears competes with the SSU women's track and field team.
Porter was named to the All-Region team in the 100m and 200m events. The Loxahatchee, Florida native qualified with a time of 10.51 at the SSU Eye Opener Track Meet on February 25 which was good enough for a first place finish. Porter's best time in the 200m race came at the Weems Baskin Invitational when he was clocked at 21.55. The meet was held in Columbia, South Carolina on March 24-25.
Holliman competed in the high jump. A native of Evans, Georgia, Holliman's best leap was 2.00m (6.675"). He finished fourth at the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships with a jump of 2.00m and had a first place finish at the SSU Eye Opener, also with a jump of 2.00m
A native of Spartenburg, South Carolina, Spears made her way on the All-Region team with her jump of 1.65" in the high jump. Her leap of 1.65" at the SIAC Championships earned her a second place finish.
In addition to being All-Region performers, Porter, Holliman and Spears are also All-SIAC honorees. Porter made the all conference second team in the 200m while Holliman and Spears were Second Team All-SIAC performers in the high jump.
