Joe Smith Named SIAC Player Of The Week

Tigers Earn Eighth SIAC Weekly Award

ATLANTA, Ga.– Savannah State outfielder Joe Smith was named the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Player Of The Week, the conference announced in a press release Monday evening.
 
Smith—the 2022 SIAC Player of the Year—batted .500 over the weekend as the Tigers picked up two wins against Clark Atlanta in a three-game SIAC series in Atlanta.
 
Smith went 5-for-10 over the three games with four hits, five RBI, a double and a home run. He's batting .438 this season to lead the Tigers. He's ranked No. 2 in the SIAC in batting average and No. 12 in NCAA Division II. He leads the conference in hits per game (1.60).
 
This week's honor is the eighth SIAC Player of the Week award for the 2023 Savannah State baseball team.
 
Savannah State baseball closes out the regular season this week with a three-game SIAC series against Morehouse College. First pitch of the series on the Tiger Baseball Field is set for Thursday at 4 p.m.
 
The Tigers are in third place in the SIAC standings with a 26-10 overall record and a 22-7 SIAC record. They trail reigning champions Spring Hill (27-18, 25-4) and Albany State (30-8, 27-2).
