In game one of the series on Friday, SSU starting pitcher Jose Santiago and Edward Waters starter Alex Davila opened a pitching duel over the opening four innings.

Savannah State did get an early run with their first at-bat of the day. Lead-off man Joe Smith blasted a solo home run 350-plus yards over the left field wall. But Davila settled in after that and held the Tigers at bay until the fifth inning.

A sac fly from Tyler Green scored the first of two runs for the Tigers in the inning. Later, Joe Smith found home on an errant throw/attempted pick-off by the pitcher.

Edward Waters took advantage of two SSU errosr in the seventh to put a run on the board. But SSU fired back in the bottom of the frame, platting four runs on five hits against Davila, who was soon replaced by Je Martinez on the mound.
