Track Tigers Win Big At Panther Invite

ATLANTA, Ga.– The Savannah State men's and women's outdoor track and field teams continued their season this week with a trip to the Panther Invitational, hosted by Clark Atlanta University.
 
Ravyn Cystrunk led the Lady Tigers with two exceptional performances on Friday. Cystrunk won both the 200 meter and 400 meter dashes. In the 200m, she ran a 25.00 for a new personal best record. In the 400m, she led the field with a 56.99, also a new personal best record.
 
Both of her performances moved her into the NCAA Division II standings. In the 400m, she is ranked No. 3 in the nation and she is No. 11 in the 200m. The standings help determine the qualifiers for the NCAA Outdoor Championship later this spring.
 
Elsewhere on the track, Savannah State senior Kayla Chance—and five time school record holder—won the 1500m run with a time of 5:02.29. Chance also won the 3000 Steeplechase with a time of 12:21.82—a new personal best time in the event.
 
The relay team of Jeainna Bryant, Cystrunk, Sadrea Mabry and Delilyah Pelham finished third in the 4x100m relay with a time of 48.12.
 
In the field, Mabry led the Lady Tigers with a first place finish in the triple jump, registering an 11.56m effort. Mabry is ranked No. 6 nationally in the event. She also led the her team in the long jump with a fourth place finish recording 5.03m jump.
 
Ky'Leigha Robinson set new personal bests in the high jump and long jump. She finished sixth in the high jump with a 1.45m effort. In the long jump, she recorded a 4.68m effort and a 17th place finish.
 
For the Tigers, Winfred Porter continued to dominate on the track. The sophomore had another outstanding week, winning the 100m event with a time of 10.64.
 
Porter leads all of NCAA Division II in the 100m rankings after setting a new personal best record (10.51) at the Savannah State Eyeopener on Feb. 25. He's earned an NCAA provisional marking, indicating he will compete in the event at the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Championship. 
 
Porter is also ranked nationally in the 200m event. On Friday, he ran a 21.66 to win the event. The finish at the Panther Invitational moved him into the No. 3 spot in the national standings.
 
In the 800m run, Alex Loyd set a new personal best with a time of 2:11.26, finishing 16th. Erik Roberts also set a new personal best in the 5000m, finish 10th with a time of 18:03.19. Joseph Hale set new college bests in the 1500m (4:58.10) and 5000m (19.03.69) as well.
 
Nyzaveon Thompson finished second in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.61. In the 400m hurdles, he ran a 58.81 to finish in fourth. He is nationally ranked No. 13 in the 400m hurdles event.
 
The relay team of Thompson, Porter, Solomon Mitchell and Antonio Russell finished second in the 4x100 relay with a time of 42.45.
 
Several Tigers set new personal bests and earned high rankings in the field on Friday.
 
Cameron Edwards finished second in the triple jump with a new personal best effort of 14.18m. He is nationally ranked No. 3 in the event. Edwards also set a new personal best in the long jump with a 6.28m effort and a 12th place finish.
 
Dominique Bailey finished fifth in the long jump with a new college best 6.54m effort. He is ranked No. 27 nationally in the event.
 
Freshman extraordinaire Aidan Holliman finished fourth in the high jump with a 1.93m effort. Holliman is ranked No. 2 in the national standings for the event following his new school record of 2.00m set at the Savannah State Eyeopener on Feb. 25.
 
Daeshaun Logan finished sixth in the high jump with a 1.83m effort. He is ranked No. 11 nationally.
 
In the discuss event, Evan Guyton set a new personal best of 40.93m finishing in second place and moving into the rankings at No. 26.
 
Savannah State men's and women's outdoor track and field teams continue the season with the annual Savannah State Orange & Blue on March 18 at Theodore A. Wright Stadium.
 
The free event will kick-off at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
